The Copyright Review Committee

on .

The Copyright Review Committee has published a Consultation Paper which examines the current Copyright legislative framework to identify any areas of the legislation that might be deemed to create barriers to innovation. Chapter 9 of the consultation paper deals with issues affecting libraries and archives.

Issues who have direct implications for archives and archivists include: format-shifting for archival purposes; regulations relating to copying by libraries and archives; legal deposit; rights clearance and orphan works; donations and text and data mining. Submissions are invited from the archival community.

The Library Association of Ireland made a submission to the Copyright Review Committee. A public meeting on copyright and innovation will be held on Saturday 24 March 2012 and the closing date for submissions on the Consultation Paper will be Friday 13 April 2012.

Please note that due to a number of requests for an extension of time, the Copyright Review Committee has decided to extend the closing date for receipt of submissions to 5.00pm on Thursday 31 May 2012.
